Howdy all, I am planning on purchasing a '95 F-250 HD, and I thought this would be a good place to come and find out some of the positive and negative things about it. What I'd like is an extended cab, 4x4, PowerStroke diesel, automatic tranny, and a towing package. I plan to mainly use this truck to commute between home and school, but I do also plan to go off-roading every once in a while. Please post and tell me what you think are the goods and bads of the 250, and if it is a good choice for what I plan to use it for.
Thanks, Drew P.
Drew P.: First of all, welcome to FTE. You have come to the right place to get your questions answered. I'm a little confused on your question though, have you found a truck or are you looking for one with the specs you have listed? What kind of money are you looking to spend, what condition is the truck in,mileage, ect?
I see you are going to school, this truck is 9 years old and a diesel to boot, do you have the funds to maintain this type of truck? Also, I would check this truck over well or it could nickle-dime you to death as time goes on!
Hey, sorry about not being too clear on the info. The things that I had listed are what I'd prefer the truck to have, but mainly what I was wondering if these options would best suit me for my lifestyle. Right now I have a budget of around $10,000-12,000 for the truck, and about $5,000 for aftermarket mods.
Thanks for posting, Drew
DRP: Well. you have the funds to get a pretty nice truck and modify it some, thats the first step. The next is to find a nice truck, the 95-96 f250's you are thinking of are good trucks if they were well taken care of,(A) the supercab is a good idea IMO,you have somewhere to put your stuff when traveling.(B) 4X4 is a good investment if you like to get offroad once in awhile. (C) the automatic trans is a matter of preference( I prefer it ) some people like to shift. (D) The diesel is the catching point to me, if you are sold on one, by all means try one out. But remember the maint. is higher, they are noisy and they will smoke a little(smell).
Again, it is a personal preference! I drive a CAT powered Freightliner for a living,so the above does not bother me, I made my decision based on cost, and how long it would take me to get my investment back.(I went with a V10)
MY question is, do you need a 3/4 ton truck at this time or will a F150 do you untill you get out of school. The best way is to take a few different trucks for a test ride, talk to a few owners, and then make your decision.
Thanks alot for your help. My dad had a diesel, and I did not mind the smell one bit at all when I would ride in it. Also, I do beleive that a 3/4 ton would suit me best because I bought a 22 ft. boat, about 2 1/2 years ago, and I move it here and there about 3 or 4 times a year, and my old K5 could barely stand up to the job, so with a 3/4 ton diesel I should be able to get the job done. Oh, and I also plan to purchase a roll back tonneu cover for the bed for when I travel. Thanks again, Drew P.
