'58 f100 stalling/surging problem

Hello
I swapped out my generator for an alternator on my 6 cylinder 1958 F100 panel truck and retained the original coil and ballast resistor and ignition points. After several miles on the freeway the car loses power as if running out of gas. Not sure if it's a carburetor issue or fuel tank issue. I had the carburetor rebuilt twice and had the fuel tank cleaned out. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Rainer

Vapor lock? Is the fuel line running close to any hot exhaust parts? Is the coil breaking down when it gets hot? Is your alternator putting out 13.8 volts after things get hot under the hood? This is my favorite: Is there a proper vent on your gas tank or cap?

Just throwing out a few ideas to sort through.............

partially plugged fuel filter will starve the motor during higher flows on the freeway. Also double check float level is correct on the carb.

I did have vapor lock initially and yes the fuel filter is next to the exhaust manifold. I will re route it and I have a vented gas cap. Thank you for the suggestions.

It could be a number of things with a bunch of stuff already mentioned and all worth checking out. But I have a question. Did the truck do this before you changed the generator out? If you never had a fuel problem before the gen swap and you drove it at highway speeds often before without this issue, it leads me to believe its electrical.
