lift kit

I just spent the weekend doing a little off-roading with my cousin who owns a jeep. He's installed a lift kit and has 38" tires on his beast. I sort of got the bug to do some modifications to my 86 ranger. Does anyone know what needs to be done to install a 3"-4" lift on a ranger? Does the drive shaft have to be lengthen? Gear shift extensions? Longer shocks? New springs? That sort of thing. Also, if anyone has done this, what's the cost associated with lifting the truck..

Yes. Easy AND cheap. If you do the body lift yourself, it will wind up costing ~about~ 10% of what a suspension lift for your truck would cost.
