I have a 2002 E250 seat in our 2003 E350 and the vinyl is different (perforated instead of smooth) compared to the original. anyone had an E150 vinyl seat next to the E350 standard vinyl (approximately same vintage)? the E250 vinyl is acceptable but would like to make sure the E150s didn't have anything really cheap in them... it's not worth driving 1hr to look at it if the E150 seats are less durable etc.
Seats are seats unless they're from a Club Wagon---even then they only vary in the material covering the foam. New foam and vinyl or fabric covers are available however the seat frames are notoriously cheaply built and subject to needing repaired if the parts the foam rests on won't hold the springs in place.
This is a good resource for new covers and foam: Seat Shop They have a YouTube channel as well--very helpful.
I used the Seat Shop for the drivers seat in my Cheby work van. Was pleased with the results and wasn't too hard to do. Price was decent. I've had mine installed for about a year and must say it made a difference on my back. Of course I was sitting on the frame on one side. lol Mine was the cloth seat. My '92 ford is still in decent shape so haven't even thought about that one.
Are you just trying to match the seats so they are uniform or it there other issues?
Great info, thanks. I think the simulated perforated vinyl on the E250 cargo van wasn't as durable as the smooth vinyl on the E350 seats, it is showing some cracking but not on the entry side or the edges, its at the seams of the middle cushion insert but I don't know the history of the seat; could be it carried a 60lb metal toolbox for most of it's life, hehe.
Vinyl in general isn't as durable as a decent automotive-grade fabric----the cold weather and sunlight take their toll over time. I've found the houndstooth-looking fabric of the middle to later 90's being pretty much superior to any of the vinyl-only covers. I've also found the Cordura seat covers are a great way to extend the life of factory coverings. I've used DecorAuto in LA with nothing but good luck.
Again any E-Series seat is pretty much the same as another the only difference being the year.
JWA, thanks for the tip, did you order grey covers from DecorAuto? if it was darker I would order those straight away, great resource!
I ordered black sides and black insertes----not sure what other colors in Codura they have though. I like DecorAuto because its an independent small business, the owner Sue was very easy to work with and eager to make what I wanted. Their prices have gone up a bit since 2018 but I'll attest they're well worth the cost.
