Ok so i am replacing my retired 302 with a JY 351w. It is a 95 (i believe) f4te block. When i go to put this thing together i figure out that the hub on the water pump is too big for my pulley. So i figured i would just use my old water pump from my 302. Well i then learned that the ports on this old 70s style water pump for a 302 are at a different angle so it leaked like crazy. I then decided to put my 302 timing cover on cause i figured it would fit and the water pump would bolt right up. Well most of you probably know that it wont bolt up to the block. So my questions are is it the 302 to 351w that is making things not fit or is it the 1970 to 95 or both? I cant use the new style water pump nor the old style timing cover. The old water pump and new timing cover wont go together so do i need to buy a water pump or a timing chain cover? To be honest a new water pump would probably be best cause my old one is pitted but it still works. Im just scared if i buy a pump for a 351w that it wont fit my pulley. Thanks in advance for any replys!
I am going to guess the 95 351 used a serp belt setup.
If so the you have access to all the parts I would go that route.
I also believe the serp setup the WP turn the wrong way for a V belt setup and I think the timing covers are also different.
Then none of the 302 acc. brackets will fit the 351 so then what do you do?
If you want to run a V belt setup you will need to find everything, timing cover, WP, all acc. brackets for a pre-serp belt 351w motor.
Just my guess on all this from what I have see posted by others.
Good luck

So after being determined to make something work i found out that i had left some gasket material on the bottom of my old timing chain cover and that was what was making the bolt holes not line up. The old 302 timing chain cover works just fine now.
