Bringing life back to the thread. My 390 came with some rusty headers that seem to constantly leak, or they are so thin the ticking is just really loud.

Is there a "best brand" or "best fit" long tube? I want to cut down on the noise.

Been a long time since I headered a 390, but Brand name doesn't guarantee leak free fit. I had Hookers on a 390 and a 427 in a 67 Stang in the 80's and they never fit without leaks. Nowadays running small blocks, I get leak free, maintenance free fit using soft copper gaskets, no matter the brand of header.

What is your year model and specific drivetrain? 2wd vs 4wd? Transmission? There's a few companies specialized in building Ford headers across all engine, transmission and chassis layouts. I'd recommend reaching out with your scenario. Check out:

'76 highboy on skinny 32's with a 390 and NV4500 overdrive with 4.10's gets 14 MPG all day long driving easy at 60 - 65. I still find it hard to believe, but I have seen it with my own eyes on multiple occasions (my brother's pickup).
