Hello All,
I bought an ididit steering column for my 65 f100, I did not make sure on which gear box I had in mine and of course ended up with the wrong one. Cannot return as to much time passed and I painted it. Can I just swap to the proper steering gearbox? If so is it a straight forward swap?
Not quite sure what the issue is your having from your description. You would use a rag joint to connect the ididit steering column to your steering box. You just need the correct shaft types for your column and steering box. It's best sometimes to just post a picture of the problem.
There are two different gear boxes, I believe I have the bendix box and my steering column is to long. I'll take a pic. thanks for the help. Let me go take it.
I have the parts to convert to power steering, might just go that way. I have parts from a 74 F100. no column though and will need to figure out what column to buy to make that work.
Before cutting the column suggest measure the length of the 'i did it', to include the Rag Joint, this should provide a figure you may be able to work with in determining whether to keep the shorter Bendix box; although, they can be problematic, or go with the longer manual or power steering Ford/Saginaw box, seem to recall they are both the same length, may need to swap an engine perches if convert to PS; perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise?
May be able to salvage a manual or power steering Ford/Saginaw box at a wrecking yard or most Auto parts stores carry both remanufactured.
