I have a 6.0 excursion with EGR deleted and coolant filter installed. Truck is running great but on the interstate in hot weather (south Louisiana) I'm getting a 190 ECT and eot around 210. I've seen a separtion as high as 22 degrees. Within minutes of getting off the interstate the temps dropp to within a 10 degree delta in the 180s 190s.
What do you think? Coolant flush? This is an important vehicle for us. We take long road trips with the kids, use it to tow a catamaran etc... I need to make sure it stays good to go.
As the cooler clogs, the temp differential shows worst with more speed and heat. Reverse pressure flush is the first thing I recommend.
It's important to not have the Gold coolant unless you care to change it every 2 years or so. And if the coolant system has seen a high degree of maintenance and long-standing use of the Gold coolant, chemical flushing can make the situation worse, so if you are going to chemically flush, be prepared for needed to change out the oil cooler. You may have to anyway.

I use the zerex coolant. It's in a gold bottle so I assume that's the one you mentioned. What coolant are you using?
That the Zerex equivalent, G-05. It's problematic if not changed in 30-50k mile intervals in general as the silicate film clogs the oil cooler passages, despite it being a low-silicate formulation. When you start to use silicate cleaners you run the risk of clogging the cooler passages even more which silicate that does not fully break down and rust particles the become free and clog the coolant entrance port.
Most of us that have experienced this have switched to an ELC coolant without silicates. There are a few, but a number of us have switched to the Shell Rotella brand, and there are two versions. But it's important to have all the silicate removed as much as possible before switching types, and that takes some work.
