Hard throttle return
I have been chasing a vac leak, including worn valve cover gaskets and more than one hose line...and loosening of the carb on the intake, after installation...regardless....I have received much advice in that department, but as I dial this motor in, I am curious about (lack of terminology) what I am going to describe as a hard throttle return. If I let off the gas completely, there is a hard knock down, and it bogs way down until I accelerate again. I’ve noticed, throughout my vac leak chase...that certain compressions seem to alleviate that in some gears, but not others. Either way, it’s never gone. Is this a throttle adjustment or what? It feels like downshifting with a sloppy u-joint, but only from lifting off the petal. It was this way when I bought the truck, and it’s this way now. Maybe due to the vac leak for not being able to hold compression past acceleration? I am still a green horn, but the joints look fine to me, and I just have the strongest feeling that it’s still due to the vac leak. I went from thinking I had a blown head gasket, to just chasing the leak and adjusting the carb the best I can. Tell me something, anything!

Is throttle hanging up ? Does it have passing gear linkage hooked to carb ? Maybe wrong linkage or adjusted wrong if yours is an automatic tranny , try unhooking it and see if it still is an issue ,
Is vacuum advance working on distributor ?
And have you tested to see what vacuum you have ?

Is throttle hanging up ? Does it have passing gear linkage hooked to carb ? Maybe wrong linkage or adjusted wrong if yours is an automatic tranny , try unhooking it and see if it still is an issue ,
