I ran into something that I think is worth posting for others that may have intermittent electrical issues. I had a few issues which were elated to the abs. I had posted some of this as the last post on my previous thread but I thought it was so far down the list few people would see it. I decided it was worth creating a new thread. The first pic is an ABS module connector. ABS connector
I had noticed a little green, copper oxide, on one module terminal. I removed the cover from the connector and attempted to remove what I thought was going to be a corroded metal connector. As soon as I pulled on the wire it broke and this is what I saw.
The break is below the surface of the hole. It is a perfectly flat break. I did not post the other end of the wire but it is the same....perfectly flat. When I first stated trying to find the problem I did a resistance check on all the wires. There are also 3 power wires going to the module and I had done a voltage test on them. No problem found. These wires are fixed to the frame within a few inches of the module and the abs unit is also bolted to the frame so flexing should not come into play at all. As well the location of the break is inside the connector housing. How the insulation got damaged to allow moisture is just a guess.
So a bit of info for anyone chasing an electrical issue. The problem may be hidden, well hidden. So far it appears my issue is solved. I have not had the abs warning light come on except when the self test is being done. My code 1185 is gone.
Thanks for the update and posting your find. I'm sure it will help someone else down the road at some point. These electrical problems can be a bear to find at times.
When a module comes into play nothing is boring. I believe many a vehicle is sent to auction for something as simple as this. I worked on a Taurus for a week and unwrapped many feet of harness to find something similar.
