I was just wondering, I seen what it appears to be fluid on my drive shaft.... and on tranny pan.
I was putting on my running boards (they look nice!) and noticed that either it's been torched or burnt fluid. It's all over the tranny pan and it dosnt have a smell to it. I also noticed that I have a coolant leak also. I checked for cracked or damaged hoses, water pump. Maybe the tranny is leaking? Thats probally whats causing my " no 2-3 upshift " problem? Im taking it to a mechanic next week.... Could a damged seal in the tranny cause a no upshift? If so, is that what the tranny shop will call the work a rebuild?
Don't just norrow down the fluid leak to the tranny. Look it over well. Because a bad front or rear main seal, Gaskest and other Fluid sorues From under the hood cause the same as what seems to be a tranny leak. Most all leaks get blown to the rear of the truck cross the tranny and drive line. A easy way to norrow it down is by what fluids is your truck using more often, Oil, Tranny, PS, Brakes ect? chances are high to be the fluids you add the most. as for your tranny no up shifting could be caused by any number of things which I can't say on since I'm only so-so on tranny's. But if you haven't already done so I'd check the Tranny fluid to see if it's low.
My 88 a4ld has an overflow vent which spat it out after i put just a little to much tranny fluid, which got my pan and driveshaft dirty. BY THE WAY, CAN TRANNY FLUID CATCH FIRE FROM EXHAUST PIPE >???/ WHAT DO I CLEAN THIS TRANNY FLUID OFF WITH ?? And also did you go on a long trip or was it a hot day ?? Thats when mine did it. It seems to stop dripping when it reads just above the very end of the dipstick. so im just gonna run it tah way until it slips or sumpthin. shifts fine now. God help my tranny please !!
