Ring and Pinion

I have a 1996 f150 300 6 cylinder with a 3.08 and I just bought a ring gear and pinion for the rear differential which is a 3.73. I was wondering if there is any difference between the front differential ring gear and pinion and the rear. I heard that one was longer. If so does anyone know where to get the front differential ring and pionion.

You also need to change both the front and rear to 3.73 if you intend to use 4wd at any time in the future. Visit www.reiderracing.com or www.ring-pinion.com for lots of info about axles, gears and differentials as well as parts (gears, diffs, shafts, etc) for both of your axles.

Way different. The front is reverse cut, and rear is standard cut. I would recommend taking the axles in and having it done if you have not done it before. The front is going to be a big pain because of the TTB. Pretty much have to take the pumpkin out of the truck. The local guy here in town charges $150 per axle to set gears up if you bring him the axles.

My dad is doing it and he has done it before on older models, he is a retired mechanic since 88', so he did not know the answer to this. My other question now is- I found a D44 3.73, but the guy said it came from the rear differential will that work in my front, or is it not reverse cut? It came from a Jeep CJ.
