cookie88, so if you had to install this gauge setup you would install pre-turbo? The only thing I have installed on the rig is the Afe Air Intake. I just ordered the Superchip 1705 programmer & I dont see myself going past the 90hp/175ft/lb setting unless a Dodge wants to be cute!!!, I have the HOG 4" SS exhaust that i'll be installing when I come back for Vegas this weekend & i've also ordered the ATS BB Turbo w/ DPS Fuel System Upgrade Kit. Speaking of the turbo. When I was talking to Ken @ Diesel Performance Specialist I asked him about the Banks Wastegate. He said it's not needed. Whats your thoughts?
Ok. here is a pic of the mount in the up pipe. You can see the oil filter head on the right and the tranny bellhousing above. I was laying flat on my back with my feet sticking out from under the drivers door.
With all the mods you've mentioned I see no reason to run the SCMT on anything but the highest setting. EGT's are not going to be a problem with a BB turbo. I agree with Ken, not only is the BHA not needed, you will have no reason to even hook up the stock wastegate.

Regarding installing it in the manifold (if you want to go that route).....you can drill and tap it the same way cookie88 drilled his up pipe, laying on your back underneath the truck.
I didn't. It's a clamp on. It has what amounts to a 4" hose clamp with a hole in it for the probe and a lead seal washer underneath. Just drill a 1/4" hole, slide the washer onto the probe, and tighten the clamp. 10 minute job.
Originally posted by cookie88 Oh and yes, I would (and did) install pre-turbo. It's a waste of time to put it anywhere else.
I am a newbee to this so please bare with me. Why do all the downpipes have a bug weldin them for the pyro probe? Banks even puts a bung on there down pipe. Do You just pug it and install in uppipe?
CH
They don't all come with a bung. Yes, just plug it. Even the Banks tech weenies will tell you the pre-turbo is more accurate, they include a bung for ease of installation. Pre-turbo is not hard, it just requires drilling.
Just to re-enforce about putting the probe upstream of the turbo. You need to understand that heat is energy. The harder the turbo is made to work, the more heat it will use up in doing so, therefore, the cooler the exhaust.
Aircraft Air Cycle machines use this principle to cool 500 deg. air off the engine to below freezing.

You can run the turbo w/ out the wastegate? Wont I have a problem w/ the check engine light?
decisions ... decisions. I would like to see some grade school report cards on the sections "follows instructions well".
I'm with you Cookie ... can't beat the crossover pipe with clampon type stinger.
Oh hell yeah! I disabled mine at 12000 miles, I'm now over 83000. It runs soooo much better with it unhooked.
Wont I have a problem w/ the check engine light?
Possibly, though it will be a Service Engine Soon ligh rather than a check engine. It will be the result of an overboost condition, and a signal that the PCM is defueling the engine. Also easily correctable.
