Need a recommendation for an aftermarket backup cam. I just got the Auto Vox W7 backup cam ($129) I bought, installed, and returned. It was crap. The 5 inch screen was grainey, the grid lines were not at all accurate and were not adjustable, the cam mount they sent would not stick to anything. This cam was listed as "Amazon's Choice", so much for their rating system. That said does anyone have a recommendation for another backup camera they like? Most of what I see out there looks like the same crap I bought. I would like a 5 to 7 inch HD screen, digital, with wireless from the cam to the screen. I am ok with the camera needing to be wired. Let me know what people have installed that really works.
ive been using this cheap camera mostly for just hitching up. its been on my truck for a few months, no moisture so far after heavy rains. i have it wired to turn on whenever i want.
I'm using an Ecco Gemineyes system with IR camera, found it brand new through eBay for just about $250--retails for just over $500. It works okay for what I need, the 7" monitor suits me but at night its a bit washed out perhaps due too much light from the reverse lights along with fairly sensitive IR camera lens. I've not yet hit anything backing up, at least when paying attention.
Two sites I've checked into but not yet purchased is Rear View Safety: RVS Camera Systems or these guys: Tadi Bros Cameras That second link sells pretty much the same stuff but at noticeable prices. RVS has a generous return policy so they'd be my first choice.
Here's driver's seat view of the camera & monitor in use:
Just FYI the grid red line is 19" from the back edge of the step showing, the green line 11 feet back.
