Question Glass install

Getting ready to install the glass into the glass channel. Is it correct to center the channel on the glass or does it go to one side or the other. A person doesn't get a second chance with this procedure. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I used some masking tape and a marker to mark where the old glass fit in the channel and then put in the new glass in the same spot. But I guess that doesn't help you now. Hopefully someone will have a better answer for you, but if you don't get a good answer, how about taping it in with duct tape or something and try it, then remove it and put in permanently??? I'll bet you will be alright centering it as you've done but not sure... good luck!

I had the glass shop install the glass into the channel. I think they put it in the center of the glass. But I don't think it matters. The rollers don't travel the whole distance of the roller area.

Make sure you lube the rollers well. I used white lithium grease.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm 95% sure it would work by centering it. I just need that vote of confidence. And yes Abe, the white lithium grease is on standby!

Also get some dry graphite for the window channels. Mid Fifty recommended it and it made a big difference on my new windows/channels. It stays dry. I got mine on ebay, It's kinda old school and may not find everywhere- probably a old hardware store would have it.

I have for years used friction tape pretty much the same as the original. Just make sure
before you bang it on there is equal amount of glass showing on each side for the
channel runners.

Ive had a few cars / trucks in my past that had the windows come loose from the channel, a quick & simple fix with the window & regulator still in the door was to clean everything up, apply a bead of 3M black adhesive silicone caulk inside the track and lower edge of the glass, assemble everything, do a little quick clean up and roll the window up tight until its dry. The window will actually center itself. I know this trick doesn't apply to df85732's situation as I can see he has all new components but for my old daily driver its been working for over 12 years now.

All good information guys. I got both side windows put in today. Ended up centering the glass and it worked just fine. As far as "all new components" ..... I used the anti rattle kit from mid-fifties. What a job. A lot of trial/error and not much room to work in that little access panel area. It's done and I'm not looking back. LOL
