Does dumping my stock distributor in my carbureted ‘85 F150 / 351V8 with auto trans for a new HEI allow me to also dump the ECM ?

I took a 351w from an 86, and dumped all the electronics for ignition and installed a hei.

Yes the ECM controls the timing if you have the EEC system.

I have never run one of those distributors before. But it looks like a tight fit. Any clearance problems you ran into? I think I remember someone saying it hit their thermostat housing. It looks very close on yours.

No issues with the thermostat housing but I do have a housing from what I believe was a 60s 302( found it in dad's garage and grabbed it). But with running a holley 770 and an edlebrock intake I can only get a couple degrees out of the hei or else I have to take it out and move it over a tooth. And I had to get a different outlet for the heater line( pulled it off a different bullnose)

Very Clean Setup !
I'm running HEI on my 302 but my motor keeps stressing the shaft, 3 Distributors down now. Might be time to have the camshaft removed.

I commented about that in the other post.
