I'm new here but I have been searching the forums for a couple days trying to find some info for my 6.7L. It's a '12 with 230,000 miles. I bought it with 202,000 on it almost three years ago. I don't tow a lot. I deleted the EGR, and DEF systems and installed a downpipe back exhaust with muffler. Installed an H&S mini Maxx tuner and I almost always run it on the +40hp tow tune because it gets the best fuel mileage there. A week ago I was pulling into traffic and accelerated hard. Heard a "pop" and rattling and the boost dropped to zero. Blew black smoke and had no power for the 1 mile I drove it to get home. Inspection revealed the cold side CAC hose broke at the "now unused" throttle body.
Further inspection revealed the hose and from what I can see with a flashlight, the intake is coated in oil and carbon buildup. I suspect the CAC is the same.
I ordered a cold side CAC hose upgrade to repair the obvious problem and plan on doing the CCV catch can mod to eliminate the oil vapors being directed to the turbo.
Question 1: Is there a spray type cleaner that can be used in the intake and/or CAC to clean the gunk in there or will I have to remove and hand clean these items?
Question 2: Could there also be a problem with the turbo leaking oil and causing this amount of buildup?
The oil is showing well above the "hot" full mark on the dip stick even with it sitting cold. This has been the case after the last two oil changes, one time it was changed by a local dealer, the last time it was changed at a reputable local oil change business. Is there some reason all of the oil would not drain during an oil change and they are over filling it when replacing the oil?
Okay, since this is a thread about a deleted intake upgrade/CAC cold pipe question, I wanted to post this here. I am a fan of SPE which is a company in PA that specialize in 6.7 Powerstrokes.

so you are dry starting after each dealer oil change
I've been changing my own oil for 30 yrs and rarely if ever have pre-filled the oil filter. Hell most of my cars that I've owned the oil filter was positioned either horizontal or at an angle so I couldn't pre-fill it if I wanted to.
I might have pre-filled the oil filter on my last oil change on my F250 only because it was easy to install and its positioned vertically.
I just don't think there is any risk of not prefilling the oil filter.
