I have a 1961 F100 with a 292 engine. The carburetor currently on it is not original, it's a Holley. I'm looking to replace it. Would like to know what came on them originally. What would be a good replacement? Thanks
The Y-Block got the Autolite 2100 somewhere right in that time frame. The trucks did get Holley carburetors prior to that. 2 barrel. Either are excellent carburetors for their intended application. As a general replacement Holley makes a 350 CFM 2 barrel 0-7448 that should bolt right up. Ford supplied all their 292 V8 equipped trucks with 245 CFM carburetors in 1964, and probably many other years.
With all that said I wouldn't replace a carburetor necessarily, or unnecessarily. At least - not yet. Hold off on that. So long as the throttle bushings are tight they can be rebuilt and tuned. I would expect (from experience) there are many other areas on a survivor Y-Block that need attention right now.
How about some pics of your truck? We like pitures!! Carb too - it may be original. Depending on what you want your truck to do for you today, original is what you want, for a bunch of reasons. Carburetors of a given model look identical on the outside, but can be quite different on the inside in terms of venturi size, booster clusters, and other components.
