i found a 72 econoline 100 with a 300 6 and a 3 speed on the collumn. it is maroon short wheel base no dents with tags and good tires. cranks right up and is quiet as can be. it looks just like the mystery machine on scooby doo cartoon shows. the guy wants 900 dollars for it and i want it bad. i want to put my blaster in it so that i can haul it inside in the cab. it has the 2 front seats and that is all. it is in perfect condition with no rust or anything. my friend has a paint sprayer. i wanted to paint it like the mystery machine. i think that would be pimp. a chick magnet or whatever. but i am sure it will be gone before i could get the money to get it. do you think this is a good van with my ideas i want to do to it. how about the price they want for it. i think it is worth it but i wish he would go lower
I also have a 72 in exc.original condition the only problem I have ever had is the power str. nice to have but a pain when somethings wrong easiest way to tell is the play in the str. If the one you're looking at has manual str. don't worry the only tires you want to run on the front is very narrow this will make easy to steer also the quickest to tear out the center link bushing is by running wide tires on the front. Hopefully it also has power brk.
if not this is a must especially with the amount of idiots on the road. The only problems I had in the last 60,000 miles is belts, center link bushing and fuel pump.
The best thing about these vans is fuel economy I get over 260 miles for a tank even better on the highway.
My friend has a disgraceful chebby with a four banger and I get better fuel economy my van is a 72 custom e200 supervan poptop
buy it b4 it's gone especially if it's a shorty you didn't say does it have windows in the back and in the back doors? does it have a chrome grill?
it has windows all the way around it even in the back i did not pay too much attention to the grill. and i did see the master cylinder when he opened the hood but i do not see how a brake booster would fit. i do not think kit has power brakes.
With pwr. brk. the booster is sideways to make room easy to install from a wreckers . There is even a way to put disc brk on the front if you want info on this let me know and just remember if you buy it make sure you get pizza cutters on the front

72 cutom E200 supervan pop top
they are the stock tires i think i am going to keep the wheels stock. unless i get my cragar ss rims sandblasted and redone. did those vans come with power steering. i have never seen a van like this one. it is short yet has plenty of room. enough for maybe 3 small atv's. i wish i had the cash. i will try to con the money out of my mom and pay her back in a few weeks
It's not really power str. but rather power ram assist that's what I have. It sucks to replace so let's not dry steer the ram and if you're power steering belt goes pull over immediately or else you'll blow the ram if mine ever blew i'd probably go to even skinnier tires and man. str.
you should measure you're wheelbase but if it is a shorty it won't be long until somebody snakes it hopefully it's you.
These vans are workaholics I've had mine sacked completely out and still achieve good gas mileage . My van is so quiet and still has the orig. exhaust I'm at 102,000 miles how many are on the shorty. Does it have the ford west coast shrome mirrors . Is it a supervan or a custom or does it say e100. I was told that mine was the only van that came from ford with cruise control I also have A/C that is stock.what color ext.int. How about chrome package i.e around windshield ,marker lights, tail lights, trim
My local junkyard has a few of those and has a really straight 74, which has a December 74 build date. I guess the 75s must have came out mid year. Anyway it is the fancy one with all the chrome, windows and seats. There is also another one that has this really cool factory step that slides out when you open the front side door.
All of the vans of that vintage I find have a half turn of play in the steering.
it was a maroon color and it said econoline 100 in chrome lettering it is a shorty though, it is shorter than any van i have seen by ford. and it has a fan on the middle console like a school bus fan i am not sure if that is original or if somebody added it. i did notice that the taillights had chrome around them and i believe the mirrors were too.
Yes willowbilly3 you're right very hard to find one with hardly any play for one the center bushing tears out usually around 60,000 miles unless you're running wide tires. Then look to replace every 30,000miles. Also the steering box has adjustments just make sure you know what you're doing .Mine also has the step in fine working order I weigh 195 pounds and it holds me up.
P.S I have to get back to the garage to replace spider gears in my DANA 60 in my 67 F250 4x4 talk to you later
Does anyone know when the first cruise control was installed in a van. When I bought mine the guy said when he ordered it from ford he told them if he didn't get it with cruise he didn't want it
so sure enough they took a cruise control unit out of a grand marquis i'm guessing similar vintage. My van also has A/C and it is a poptop. Anybody have clue on how many poptop fords of this vintage were built. I got my build sheet from ford but what I was told is that these vans were outfitted some where other then ford with the poptop no I don't mean the big fiberglass raised roof kind I mean the ones like the volkswagon vans but it pops up
on both sides not one like the vw. I see dodges that are poptops never seen a chebby popper. And I only know of two of these ford poppers mine and another guy who posted some stuff on a different link the only difference is his popped up hydraulically
mine two people from the inside push it up and locks in to place
