I have a 1995 F-150 with a 5.0L F-Series/Bronco engine. The coolant temperature sensor housing is in need of replacement/repair. (See attached picture, yellow arrow) The small metal nipple (red arrow) has corroded away and is too short to reattach the hose. It would seem that I have two options:
1. Replace the part. Ford, however, shows this part to be obsolete. I have not been able to find an after market replacement and junk yard searches have also come up empty. Perhaps one of you kind people have a spare laying around or could direct me to a suitable replacement. That not happening . . .
2. Repairing the part may be my only option. Thought about drilling out the broken tube and then tapping the hole to screw in either a brass nipple or a plug.
If any of you have had this issue and can offer some assistance - thanks in advance.
IIRC that nipple goes up to the TB, right? If you are in a warmer part of the country, you can just bypass that. Many folks, including myself, have done so when the TB started leaking coolant. I live in Texas, BTW. If you don't need the nipple, then you can just screw the sensor directly into the manifold where the current sensor housing resides. I don't know that the threads are the same, but, if not, I am sure you could find an adaptor.
Torq'ta 58 . . . What am I missing? It looks like the part number you referenced (F4TZ18B402A) is for applications up to 1994. The part really don't look like mine or appear to have the same type, number and size of hose connections.
I Also found a part number E8TZ-18B402C but that too is for 1994.
Surprisingly it looks like the correct name for the part is Tube, Water Heater. Go figure. Guess it is like the Army calling a zipper an interlocking slide fastener.
torq'ta - hate to be a PITA, but Motocraft part KT81 is a replacement for OEM Ford part E8TZ18B402C, the latter of which is only for F-150s up to 1994. Mine is a 1995. Referring to the pic you will notice that my part has a temperature sensor opening, 2 larger hoses and 1 smaller (the nipple that broke off). In comparison, the KT81 and Ford OEM part both have 1 sensor port and1 large and 1 small tube built in to the housing. Not enough openings to fit.
Do you by chance have another part number of a 1995?

R&R Ford - thanks for clarification. You ARE spot on - "hose #1 IS the temp sensor." But -back to my most recent comment - KT81 (which replaces E8TZ18B402C) are for 1994 and before. There are others for 1996 and later. 1995 stands alone. Again, what is the part for 1995?
Send NumberDummy a private message. He is your best shot at getting the right part number. That said, I think either of the above posted parts can be made to work for you. I don't think you are going to find an exact match to what you have.
this was on fleabay, a few months back, it is off a 88 F250 5.0L, maybe yours was replaced at one point, like R&R said, and they found it cheap, see if pic resembles yours
Scour the web or hit the junkyards, or make your own like I did. Manifold threads are 1/2" NPT, sensor is 3/8" NPT thread and heater hose is 5/8" or so.
I know that it's not what Ford calls it, but I refer to them as "stand pipes".
One of those marvelous ideas that Ford had to manufacture a different item for every model down the line that had a different engine/trans/interior trim level/body color.
(Please note, above statement is sarcasm )
Recently working on V6, 3.8 Mustang engine reveals they have 2 hexagonal, heavy cast units that can be used to feed heater core, TB cooling lines, gauge & ECT sensor AND... an air bleed plug.
You can screw them together or use singly. Just a junk-yard option for anybody.
Since this is a common problem on the older OBS, I would like to share what I did. I drilled out the hose connection to a 1/8th inch NPT fitting and put a stainless-steel barb in there its holding with no leaks saved me a lot of time and money. I could not find an OE piece in a reasonable time frame. I hope this idea helps anyone dealing with this. I didn't see many videos on the topic and only saw this thread,
