2021 Max Tow

2021 max tow pkg now allows 5.0L. I wonder of actual max tow rating will be the same 5.0L vs 3.5L EB.

They also for 21 made it so you can't get max tow on anything above XLT 301a. The max tow now requires the HD payload package. The HD payload is restricted to 301a and below. So effectively they took away max tow from all but a few trucks.

im not getting that from guide shared. Appears you can only get heavy duty payload on 301a or below. Seeing max tow available on 302a and lariats. Stopped looking at that point.

glad they are FINALLY offering LED reflectors on XLT though!

I'm reading it differently as well, looks like Max Tow is available in all trims. THANKS for posting the order guide, I will add this to an information sticky at the top of the forum when I have a few more things to post.

You are right, I didn't read carefully enough. So max tow is available on all trims but requires HDPP on XL. So I wonder what that means for STX package XL trucks?

I didn't look at the order guide (yet), but I don't see the TBC included like the previous generation Max Tow package had. Is it still a stand alone item? I think they should have an all inclusive package and call it Ultimate Tow - include the Tow Mirrors and the dang TBC...!

Lots of guys that want max for pkg either for payload or tow boats that dont want tow mirrors. Tight garage door issues. I add them I like they are option not mandatory.

They power fold... That is why one might want them as well...

Power folding is restricted by trim level.

I am attempting to determine the difference between normal tow package and max tow package. I would get a Lariat high package hybrid truck with sport package and 20" wheels. When I build it I can only see a bumper upgrade as the axle ratio and all other options are determined due other packages.

Is there a brake upgrade or anything with the max package over the normal tow package? I am looking at about a $200 difference with X plan pricing between the two packages.

I don't see anything in the order guide about a brake upgrade, the packages are pretty similar. In previous years the "bumper upgrade" really meant an upgraded hitch. The difference wasn't huge though, so unless year planning on pushing the limits it might not be worthwhile.

I think for anyone who's planning to tow, getting the Max tow package has some value, and it makes the truck easier to sell on the used market too. Since you can get it with your choice of engine in 2021, there's really no downside. I suspect around here, the vast majority of dealer stock will have that option package as well.

The only downside, if it stands at it has in the past, is the payload will take a hit. The Max Tow does kill payload and adds an unrealistic max gross trailer weight rating.

The F150 is a funny beast when you get serious about ratings for towing. I think anyone who's actually looked at their payload sticker and run the truck across a scale is already better informed than 95% of the drivers out there.
