Transmission temp

Just curious what the normal transmission temp is on a 16 3.5 eco? I don't have the tow package or anything and I wasn't towing, my digital gauge was showing right at 200 to 201. It was fairly hot out and it was after about an hour of driving anywhere from 65 mph to 80 on interstate. I've only had the truck a few months and never really paid attention to the temp. I've heard that it should be around 180 to 190 degrees. Is this normal for the trans to run at that temp.

Should i be concerned? I have a 2019 FX4 3.5EB. normal city driving nets me 198 degress give or take. last weekend went camping at Mammoth lakes and driving up the highway through the hills and passes with a bed full of camping gear and 5 passengers my temps were showing anywhere from 206-213. It was hot outside and AC was on. When i got to mammoth driving up a slight grade with ambient temps a bit cooler in the mid 70's it hit 217 on the digital gauge. Everything seemed ok. Just curious if these numbers are ok. Ive been reading up on it and it seems like different model years have different numbers. I dont have a max tow package but i have a tow package. 33" tires on 17" wheels

I should add that those numbers were only when climbing hills. Once leveled they went back to normal. Should also add that i used the 4wd system on some dirt backroads and through some off camber sections. When using the 4wd system i also noticed 213 degree temps. Again, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

You are also fine, wouldn't be concerned. The 10r80 is designed to run hotter with the mercon ULV. I see 225 towing 12k up 6% grades.

I hope so. I do have pretty much every extended warranty since this is our first stint at an American truck. I love this truck! So if im hitting 217 loaded on short hilly climbs its ok? I dont intend on towing a trailer or anything but I could in the future since i have the ability to. and im just wondering if towing something heavy will net me even higher temps. your getting 225 towing 12k lbs. Im close to that not towing anything!

There is no way your near 12k not towing. If you are you have some other issues to address. Probably should find a scale to verify your weight. At 12k towing I am at 20,120lbs GCW as verified on a CAT scale.

What i mean is your towing 12k lbs behind you up a 6% grade netting 225 trans temp. I wasnt towing anything and was way under my payload capacity and was getting 213-217. Should these numbers concern me if i ever do decide to want to tow anything? Be it 5k-10k lbs. thanks for your insight.

No I wouldn't be concerned. The other issue you may have is running in to high of a gear and lugging the engine. Keep the rpms up when climbing and the fluid circulates faster. You will find that 7th gear is the sweet spot for most hill climbing and maintains the most stable temperature.

Awesome info! Thanks. Its a surprise that a Ford tech or corporate cant provide an answer yet a forum can! Im assuming i should use Tow/haul for climbing anything with a loaded bed up a hill? Or stay in normal mode? What model year truck and engine are you running

Just throwing this out there for those who do not know, Forscan can enable the actual engine and transmission temps (displayed digitally above the gauge in the instrument cluster). Look on youtube, there are a ton of how-to videos. It's one of the "mods" I've done and I like it.

You can run tow haul or lock out upper gears as needed with the shifter. I have a 18, 19 & 20 truck all equipped the same 3.5 max tow.

Only works on 8" cluster. The 4.2 you have to toggle display mode.
