But what's the point? The Expedition Max already fills that category. Maybe a trim level?

The Expedition Max is a 1/2 ton SUV. The Excursion was a 3/4 ton SUV and it was available with all the same engine options as the Super Duty trucks.

I understand the underpinnings difference, but unless it's significantly bigger than the MAX, it would be hard to justify another full size SUV

Best SUV I ever drove! With the V-10 we used to get 16.5 MPG @ 70 with cruise. I of the few vehicles that I miss

There have been posts and sites absolutely sure that Ford was bringing back the Excursion for several years, this is the most compelling article I have seen but I am not holding my breath. As far as Excursion vs Expedition MAX...well when they put a 6.7 in and give it the towing capability of an F250 to the MAX you can make the argument that it is unnecessary, otherwise we are major apples to oranges here.

Exactly. You can't get a 6.7L PSD, a 7.3L Godzilla or even a 6.2L in an Expedition Max. Maximum rated towing weight is around 9k.

Ford is just renewing the trademark on the name so someone else can't lay claim to it. That's all

I would love the Excursion with some way on the back to tow my fifth wheel.....yes, it might look silly, but not having my children sit 3 across and able to touch one another would be epic!

Payload, with a trailer approaching max tow rating not much left for passengers and cargo.

If the Excursion was to return ... the price would be through the roof, unless it was a stripped down utility version. I just don't see it happening at this point. Some basic changes to the Expedition as a tow package... cooling upgrades, solid rear axle, gearing, suspension upgrade, 7.3 gas engine (option), could easily bring the vehicle's tow capacity into the max tow rating of the F150 to 13,200

I remember my K10 blazer with the removable fiberglass roof was cool. Maybe something along those lines for the F150? but I just can't imagine doing that with the F250 and bagging it as Excursion.
