What`s the best way to get all the coolant/water out of the system. I drained the radiator but nothing close to 14.5 quarts ended up in the drain pan. I`m thinking I have to take off a hose somewhere. Anybody ever had to do it?
Removing every hose from the cooling jacket still doesn't allow all the water/coolant to drain out, sad to say. My own 5.4 2V engines hold at least 4 gallons, potentially more. When I've done the flush thing I'll fill, drain out, fill again, drain out again for a few times. If a system flush solution has been added three or four times should have all that out of the system with nothing but clean water still inside the block.
From there I'll add up to 3 gallons of straight coolant, circulate and test with a hydrometer. I'll then add another gallon of pre-diluted coolant to get the freezing point my climate experiences.
Not sure this answers your question or is helpful though---hoping it might be somewhat!
