Transmission
I had the light-duty version in our 2000 F250 5.4. The AT performed flawlessly for the 17 years and 140K miles we owned the truck.
I did treat and maintain the AT well, IMHO. For example, I locked out fourth gear (OD) under certain conditions (i.e., climbing grades, slow traffic) to allow the torque converter to lock in third gear and also keep the transmission from hunting between third and fourth gears.
I also installed an ATF temp gauge, a variable-speed cooling fan on the external oil-to-air cooler, and an external filter in the ATF cooler return line.
I changed all the ATF (including draining the torque converter and the coolers), the internal ATF filter, and the external ATF filter every ~50K miles. I used the 4x4 internal filter, which has a longer pickup tube.
The variant in your E450 motorhome is likely the heavier-duty version used in the pickup truck equipped with the V10 or diesel.
HTH, and best of luck!
