D60 id

Can someone decode this d60
tag or tell me where I can. I can’t remember.

looks like.

3 31 d6ta jz 603714-6

also, 3 31 gears, why would it have that? I’ve seen 3.50 and 3.73, but never 3.31.

Is it a 2wd truck? If so that 3.31 might be more common even in a D60.

The key number in the old days was the BOM (bill-of-materials) which is that 603714-6 number. Even though not complete, the Dana website does let you search some BOM numbers.
There are other sites as well, but I don't have any of them saved. A guy named MrN used to have some good stuff, but not sure if the pages are still up after all these years or if you have to hunt through the internet archives for that.

Good luck. Pretty sure there are members here that know this stuff too, so with luck someone will chime in before you have to hunt the great recesses of the internet universe.

How does it do with the 3.31 : 1 gears? I have a truck with 4.56 gears that I'm going to regear at some point.

No clue, it’s a parts truck that I’m making into a trailer. I was going to save guts for my other d60, but they won’t work.

Has to be D6TA-JZA because there's no such code as D6TA-JZ
