Before I start looking for a ZF to replace my mada m5r2 slush box i have some questions on some differences. First off, do all ZF's have external slaves, if not, which year would i be able to find it on. Also, do any ZF's have a VSS or is this only limited to the 2wd version? I swapped a 9" in my 93 F150 and now i have no where to get my vehicle speed, if the ZF has it, that would be choice. Thanks.
All of the small block ZF's are concentric slave.
And, for your speedometer reading, on a 4x4, it has to come off of the output shaft of the transfer case, not the transmission.
Awesome news about the slave. About the speedometer, i have the BW1356 that i'm going to continue using when i put the ZF in. I know that there is no speedsensor on the tcase, so i'm still stuck on what to do with that. I found this slipyoke eliminator that i'm seriously considering on buying and i could use that as part of my VSS. If I were to devide 108 (i'm pretty sure this is the number of teeth on the ring in the 8.8) by 4.56, my gear ratio that would tell me how many of teeth I would need on a ring if I were to run the vss off the driveshaft. I could either get that may teeth cut out of the slipyoke elim. or get a ring with that many teeth cut from it and have it pressed on to the slipyoke elim. Any ideas? Anyone confused?
I was just wondering where you found that slip yoke eliminator from. I am working with my 94 f-250 with a zf and bw1356 as well(I think that is the transfer case I have) any info would be much appreciated. Thanks alot
i'll give them a call and see how they set is up for the 9", i'd rather not have it on the axle as it will be closer to the ground and near things that could damage it. I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone with the slip yoke elim. setup, just have to figure out how to get teeth cut into it or a ring, like the one they have on the 2.5 ton rockwell in the pics and press it onto the slip yoke elim.
a friend of mine had one made for 2.5 ton rockwells but insted of the steel teeth it is made of aluminum and drilled with steel pins inserted into the holes
i never thought of using aluminum. roughly how much would something like this cost from a machine shop, is it something that I can make drawing it out in cad and carefully use a dremel?
