1996 F250 7.5 / Experiencing intermittent ignition loss. Replaced ICM with Motorcraft replacement and heat sink paste. Lost ignition again momentarily but kicked right back in. This is a loss of ignition only, remaining electrical does not cut out. At first this showed up @ starting, I replaced fuel tank selector switch as I was stranded once with my F150 when this switch failed. Any clues where to look next?
Get a test light.
1st I would check power to the coil.
Unplug coil and check for corrosion.
If it's clean put back together.
Run it. If power goes out again recheck power to coil.
Also feel the coil to see if it's getting hot.
If it's getting hot to the touch replace it.
Coils can be intermittent.
Work a while then not.
Also I use a lyle spark testor
You can plug it inline with coil wire.
To be sure it's a spark issue not another problem
you can drive with it in.
And it will show if it's a weak spark.
About 10 buck at oreillys.
one of the best tools to have.
Start there. Then on to something else if it's not spark.
