My 1961 f100 4x4 was delivered today I’m pretty excited it fairly solid floors have minor rust cab corners have some the air cleaner says it’s a 429 merc engine buts it not the engine sticker says it’s a 390 the guy let me keep the rims and tires so I’m happy for that and the truck was sold new in St. John Kansas which is pretty close to me can someone decode the vin thanks and sorry the vin picture is upside down and HOW MANY WERE MADE I herd that 61 ford f100 4x4s are rare and they didn’t make a lot I found production numbers for trucks with beds but how many were made with flatbeds?
Nice find, custom cab is always a plus, the Mint Green is one of the rarer colors, should look good buffed out. I assume your going to put on a regular pickup bed? Is the trans a New Process or Warner?

that’s a factory flatbed I’m leaving it and it’s a Warner transmission 4spd
Good looking truck. Could you post a picture of the rear of of the bed? I`ve never seen a double script back panel like that before. Lots of block script and logo script, but not a double like that.

Its late TT or AA with the script "Ford Truck" and the exposed rear stake pockets
The true 'factory' platform or rack and platform for these trucks has "Ford" in block letters and the rear stake pockets are internal to the rear cross member.
Neat truck anyway. My first slick was a mint green '61 flareside, 292 and 4 speed. It's what I learned to drive a 'stick' in.

.
Thanks for the clarification on the correct period platform for a '61. As we have seen countless times, people put everthing and anything on these trucks and claim it came that way from the factory.
My dad had a 56 F600 with the block letters, and I`ve seen other with 56`s with the script. I have a 64 F350 and it is block lettered.
I recall the "Ford Truck" to "Ford" change was around '27, and script to block was around '57 so that makes sense.

True...
To be honest I grew up in a GM family, I am the old ball. The fact that it isn't all that uncommon to see an early factory Ford platform bed on a later truck speaks the the quality of these beds. There are several late 80s to early 90s (Ford and GM) trucks running around this area with script and block letter beds on them, this is the heart of the rust belt. The former universal 34" SAE standard also helps.

Agreed, if you ever get the itch to put a block letter bed on it keep your eyes peeled. They show up everywhere, don't limit your search to 61-66 Fords. Just be advised because of the unique stake pocket dimensions, it's hard to cut a long one down to a short one and make it 'right'.

I’ll probably just keep that one on there I’ve gonna cut the sheet of metal off the top because the original wood bed is beneath it and I got the truck running last night makes me wonder if my truck was ordered as a can and chassis or maybe it had a bed at one point
In 1961 they offered the F100 4x4 in a Cab & Chassis (180), a Flareside (2,468) and a Styleside (255). No Platform or Platform & Rack was offered on the 4x4. Nothing on the Warranty Plates decoded any back of cab equipment in this era - not until years later did they start including any info like that.

I posted that in my last thread - 180 Cab & Chassis, but it would be tough to say the back of cab equipment. There is a chance it had a bed and someone swapped it. But, no matter what the 4x4 trucks from this era are rare since they didn't make very many of them. 1959 was the first year Ford offered the 4x4 from the factory. Everything prior was a conversion done by some outside company. Yours is only the 3rd year they had built them.
