Did you paint the bumper or is it new? She looks great.
The safety tape reminds me of that old Tony Danza show, 'Who's The Boss', where he got his daughter (big-mouthed liberal communist Alyssa Milano) her first car and he had the tape all over the car. Great episode!
I'm honestly looking forward to how the truck looks when you say "I'm done!". I'm sure she'll be sweet AND strong.

Dave,
I scuffed the bumper with Scotch-Brite and sprayed it with black appliance epoxy. I got a 30 foot roll of 3M safety tape from an E-bay supplier.
Since we drive the freeways down here in SoCal - and I've been rear ended twice since moving here in 2012 - I wanted the extra visibility. Plus its kinda fun to keep up with the whole "Power Company" theme...LOL
The D-rings are really well made and the hitch is too. Both are USA Made from Rigid Hitch in Burnsville, MN. I bought all new, Grade-8 fine thread flange bolts, nuts and extra-thick washers for the install.

Decided to give YeloTruck a tune up. I replaced the air filter with genuine Motorcraft and cleaned the MAF and throttle body. I also replaced a split breather hose running from the left valve cover to the intake pipe.
The PCV valve was "buzzing," so I replaced it with a Motorcraft valve and the buzzing noise stopped.
I decided to go ahead and change the spark plugs. All were Motorcraft and all of them looked good - except the last one on the driver's side. it looked like it was 50 years old.
#8 plug from YeloTruck (left) and #4 on the right. Despite the gap, i had no misfire, no fault codes and the truck passed smog too!!@!!
Bird's-eye view of #8 plug hole. Threads all looked good in the 5.4 Litre, 2-Valve V8...
For some reason, YeloTruck wants to go 85mph. No matter how hard I try to keep my speed down, it is always creeping up to 85, like there's a "notch" or something there that it "drops into."
It also pulls harder than other 5.4's. Several guys with Powerstroke F250's who have ridden in YeloTruck ask me what I've done to make a "lazy-*** 5.4" pull like it does.
We drove 165 miles on Sunday - round trip - which included pegging the speedo on Lucerne Dry Lake and lots of idling around with the A/C on and when I topped up, YeloTruck only took 9.8 gallons to refill the tank.
I could honestly care less about MPG, but I wasn't expecting such good fuel economy from such a heavy monster.
Looks like a good call on the spark plugs. Does that thing have limited slip in the rear? Have you changed the tranny and rear diff fluids yet?
I'm disappointed to say it doesn't have posi/limited slip, but that's a planned modification.
I changed the engine oil, using a Motorcraft filter and Rheinol Primus 5/40 Full Synthetic. Ive been using this oil for years now in my 4.6 Litre 3-Valve with great results.
The truck was serviced in October, 2019 by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, at which time the records say ATF was changed as was P/S fluid.
YeloTruck was pulled from service in December, 2019 and sold a few months later. I bought it from a LADWP worker who bought the truck when he retired. I just pulled a report on the truck that still shows it as a one owner. The title still read "City of Los Angeles" when I registered it.
I installed a new MisMishimoto aluminum radiator, Motorad 170°F thermostat and fresh Motorcraft "Green" Coolant.
Could you describe the 'buzzing sound" again. I have a 2002 F 250 CC XLT and I hear this clicking on and off of this "buzzing" sound. Sounds like a morning dove although something is cycling on and off. Doesn't affect anything but I can't put my finger on it..

My PCV valve "buzzed" like it was full of angry bees. You could touch it and 'Feel' the noise!!!!!
Front bumper was kinda bent. Pulled it and straightened it today. Will repaint tomorrow... Bent inward on either side of license plate... Bumper is easy to remove... Damage is easy to see now... Got it straight...Paint tomorrow...
This bumper should have been replaced. Its not a great straightening job... Fairly close match to the grille. VHT High Temp Wheel Paint #SP189 Graphite.
Not perfect, but looks a lot better and you didn’t have to spend the cash on a replacement. The real question is when are you swapping the sealed beam headlights for a set of DOT LEDs? Those would have to be a huge improvement when you are out in the desert especially with the shorter days.
