Back in my youth when I messed with aftermarket stuff I remember Ford played games with the illumination signal. I think the polarity was reversed from standard possibly? Try turning on the headlights (or turning them off if they are on) to toggle the illumination setting to see if it gets brighter. Obviously if it gets dimmer when you turn the headlights on that is not the issue. If it does get brighter when you turn the headlights on, you will need to look into how to reverse the input from the truck.
