What is this piece called?
My buddy and I are restoring a 1974 truck and the bottom of this piece is rusted. We were debating just cutting above the rust (very little) and putting a panel to craet a new bottom rather than try to reshape that corner curve. Any reason this is a bad idea?
the green line is where we were debating cutting. We would keep enough for the bracket to remain.
not the actual cab btw

I don't know what it is called exactly, but the inside is the housing where the fresh air vents slide open on the the interior kick panels. Usually they get filled with leaves and dirt and water, and rust out. Could be considered firewall, or kick panel housing, or part of the cab mounts. I can't think of any reason why you couldn't repair this. I think it is probably galvanized steel in that area though. So take precautions when welding on galvanized. Take your time and measure twice, cut once. Good luck!
The way it's listed in the Ford parts catalog is "Panel, cowl side vent air".
The P/N for the right hand side is D3TZ-1002300-C and I couldn't locate any dealers that had one.
When I replaced mine we just cut one off a donor cab and welded in a new piece. See if anyone has a junk cab they wouldnt mind cutting that part out of (if its in good shape)
