Whats the better choke cap voltage feed ?

Noticed that electric choke cap feed is not reliable today . Its been wired to the alternator stator pin on back . The stator pin is not very bright when a test light is on it and most of the time there is nothing at the stator pin for voltage . But the battery gets a 14 volt charge .
Either the alternator is funky or maybe its time to find a ignition switch on position spot to connect to . That would supply stronger 12 volt feed . Its been working off a replaced 1st gen alternator .

If it is factory setup then leave it on the alternator as they used lower voltage just to assist the heat stoves from the manifold but if aftermarket find a 12v source for it..

No heat tubes any more . Newer 2bbl Motorcraft being used . Supplier says the choke cap is for 12 volt system so I am not so sure on using the stator pin behind the alternator . But I will give it one more try . The cap will open sooner though if direct 12 volts .
