Hi , is anyone familiar with using this paint? I’m using a quart of brush on enamel. I did one coat today. It needs a second coat, holidays and such, also I put it on thinly.
There’s a lot of warning or advice about possibly re-wetting o
r attacking the paint with a second coat. But the directions aren’t super clear. Can I apply a second coat tomorrow??
Follow the recoat instructions on his website. I think I waited a week between coats and two weeks before running the engine. If you recoat it too soon it will crinkle on you. I brushed mine on and sprayed with hvlp gun for some parts.

Thanks! Aren’t the directions really unclearly written though? I already had a bad experience with the spray cans on smaller parts with re-softening of the paint. It seems like the brush on enamel is less likely to crinkle or soften but probably not. I won’t chance it!! Thanks again!
I used the Hirsch spray cans and liked the way it covered and laid out. Can’t speak to its durability since it only has been test run. Stu
wow that turned out great! I didn’t know the OHV was supposed to have a dark green valve cover? That’s the cost clipper engine from 52? The 6 cylinder. What are those colors?? Lincoln Mercury light green?
The Hirsch color is the correct Lincoln/Merc/truck light green. Below is the spray can with code. The darker green I had mixed getting as close as I could to an original valve cover. Stu
Hi truck dog looks like you had a pretty in tact and nice engine to start with? Original paint was on there in viewable condition. The paint that was on my engine in isolated areas, starter and intake manifold was closer in color to Detroit Diesel or bill Hirsch Mercury Green but didn't match them entirely either. I just gave up and listened to what you guys were saying on some old threads regarding the color. I went with the Lincoln Mercury light green. i had thought the brush in enamel was a little more forgiving in recoat time than the spray version.
This light green/dark green combo was also used on the ‘52/‘53 Big Jobs. The 215 pic I posted is not my engine, just a file pic. Mine was Ford blue when I got it. Stu

Stu, was your engine rebuilt when you got it? When I had my 239 Yblock rebuilt in 1979 the machine shop rebuilder painted it Ford blue. Perhaps that's what was done to yours.
When I got the truck the engine was blue, and seized. I soaked it and worked it free, got it running, then had it rebuilt. My buddy Ty told me that it had been rebuilt not long before. Still showing the machine work it had had. So it maybe didn’t really need to be rebuilt, but it was seized so who knew. Stu
