I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a truck cover? I live in Florida and the sun just beats down on the truck year after year and it doesn't fit in my garage.
Can you get a Carport?
I have a big one now but I think it may be too short for me to fit it in.
When I had my other F-350 I had one of those $200 fabric carports (you got to secure that thing down TIGHT) and had to put it up on a few cinder blocks so it was tall enough.
Might be better then a cover?
Have a CarCovers.com cover, well made and does the job.
Outside of the general pros cons of using a cover I will add that the cover is huge. On/off is easy but it’s a arm full. Secondly I have a diamondback bed cover, without this for support over the bed it would be more of a swimming pool liner than car cover when it rains.
Thanks! I looked at the one from carcovers.com I too have a bed cover. They had some poor reviews so I didn’t pull the trigger but if you are happy with yours I will revisit. Wish I could do a carport but don’t have the room.
I have a cover made from noah fabric that was fit for my Jeep. I cut it in half and use it to cover just the hood and grill. The truck sits under an A Frame so that cuts 100% of rain and 95% of the sun rays. I can't imagine trying to cover and uncover a full truck cover everyday.
They were painting our building about a year ago, and I needed something to put over the truck when I left it during the week, a lot of the vehicles were ending up with little paint dots all over them. I didn't intend to use it for very long, so I went on Amazon and I bought this one:
Audew 6 Layers Truck Cover, All Weather Car Cover for Pickup Truck, Snowproof Waterproof Windproof Dustproof UV Protection Universal Car Covers for Truck, Fits up to 246''
I think it is presently about $65. It fit, it was tight, that was on a 2012 CCSB, so the bed was 6.5, not 6.75, but it will probably still fit. I used it for about 4 weeks, it did the job, didn't make any marks on the paint, but it was not the easiest to put on and off. Certainly wasn't as good as my real car cover for my car, but as I said, just trying to protect the truck while the painting was going on. After putting it on a few times, I don't know, if I had a good one I am not sure I would be going through the effort of putting it on and taking it off very often. Might be worth buying something cheap like this, use it for a while, and see if it is something that you are really going to use religiously. Some kind of a cab cover, or even a good windshield screen, might turn out to be something that you would use more often, and get more benefit.
Before you buy, you should get a LARGE tarp, put them on the truck, tuck them in the door, hood then take it on and off about 20 times. See if you like that.
I hated my Motorcycle cover, on and off, tuck in and strap down. Making sure that the Soft inner part of the cover isn't scratching the Paint.
Just got a Carhartt cover for my F150 about 2 months ago. Very good investment in my opinion. Easy to take on and off, custom fit to the truck, and has a 5 year warranty. Only con for the cover is the price tag. List price was around $600 but I was able to snag it for 20% off.
All the research I did indicated buy a reasonably cheap one because after 2 years or so ... you will need a new one. I picked this one up off Amazon. I absolutely love it. I have a daily driver so I rarely drive my 6.7 F350, unless I'm towing my RV or hunting.
I live in Utah and the UV here is horrible as well.
I have a similar problem but it's with redwood trees that drop sap and really corrosive garbage all year long. i don't have a flat space good enough for a carport and adding to my garage would be prohibitively expensive so I went down the paint protection film route. I covered all the horizontal surface and the front fenders. Cost me a few thousand, but keeps the paint totally safe under neath. I've had it about a month now and the film is already covered with a bunch of little stains. They clean off with some rubbing. I would not be comfortable with that amount of rubbing on the paint, but the film is self-healing so it's fine.
I justified the cost by saying it was cheaper than any garage addition. Think of it like a car cover you never have to remove. I used Xpel, which has a 10 year warranty, so if it yellows or comes off before that, it would get replaced under warranty. On top of the sun/rain protection, you also get the added benefit of scratch and rock chip protection.
Figured I'd drive the truck for 10 years and it would be worth $10,000 in nearly any non-wrecked condition under 200,000 miles
Can't justify the carport
Can't stand a car cover on and off and on and off then it rains on it on the ground while im gone and it's full of mosquitoes and water and leaves and eventually it has a tear then its trash and I paid $400 for a pile of garbage
Think I'll just let the sun and rain ravage my truck like my grandpappy would do and buy a new one every 10 years
