Yires Finally On

Okay folks. the suspension lift went okay. we had to manufacture 2 drop down brackets. also the kit did not come with a pitman arm so we were glad that a local performance shop has it in stock. we had to replace the outter tie rod ends as well on both sides. so the truck is looking great. i bought my new rims and slaped on the tires.

CAN ANY ONE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE betwen 31x10.5x15 versuse 265x75x15? the guy says they are the same size but i just want to make sure. Thank you

Load ratings (rated by letters) can be different. Also there can be P265/75x15 and LT265/75x15. The "P" stands for Passenger vehicle, while the "LT" is for Light Truck. The latter will usually have a higher Load Rating and be a stiffer (riding) tire. The standard "truck" sizes ('30x9.5x15' or'31x10.5x15') are almost always built for heavier-duty use.

If you want the mathematical answer, read on. If you were looking for H-O-4WD's practical answer, don't bother reading any further.

As far as the size difference, the metric designations are WIDTH (in mm) / PROFILE (as % of width) / RIM DIAMETER (in inches).

So the 265/75/15 are 10.4 inches wide (265mm divided by 25.4 mm per inch) with a 7.8 inch profile (75% of 10.4 inches). Add the rim diameter (15 inches) to twice the profile and you get 30.6 inches diameter (15 + 7.8 + 7.8).

So the nominal size of the 265/75/15 is 30.6 inches x 10.4 inches. That's the same as a nominal 31 x 10.5. (All the numbers are rounded off anyway, so 30.6 is essentially equal to 31.)

Lesson over, back to work.
