So I’m building my f250 I’m planning on doing a 6-8 inch lift with 22x14 and 37s and I’m wanting to know what I will have to do to at least have stock performance out of my truck so it won’t feel sluggish. I know I’ll need to re gear but what gears will I need? Also will I need any engine mods or anything? It’s a 5.4l v8! Thanks in advance!!
I have an 05 F-250 5.4 as well and I'm awaiting 35s to arrive any day. I have catback dual outlet exhaust and cold air intake with sct tuner that definitely helped. I'm thinking I will need some more power after the wheels arrive to make up the power loss. Lmk what you find out is best
I know [utag]WE3ZS is running a V10 auto with 35s and 4.88 gears. I know he has the Banks Headers and a few other goodies, but you have less engine and more tire in your plans. I am not sure if you are towing or not, but I am thinking you are talking about 4.88 or 5.13s. Also would be a good time to consider installing something like a Detroit Truetrac to upgrade traction from an open diff or replace the mostly likely worn out LSD.
I have a 04 chevy with the 5.3 LS, with a tune, 4.10 posi gears and 37's.
it does OK without a load, but dont try and tow anything with it.
4.88 or 5.13 would be a better gear choice with 37s.
Thanks for the mention Wizkid.
The modular motors, both the V-10s and V-8s enjoy their best all around performance with an effective 4.30-4.56 gear ratio. So with 37s you would be looking at 5.13 gears and 4.88s are the ticket for 35"s. My 6.8 EX does have true 35"s, 4.88s, Banks headers, 3030XL muffler and 5Stars custom tunes. It is our dedicated tow rig for our 41' 12,000lbs TT that we have logged over 30,000 miles on all over the Eastern states. It pulls even the biggest Eastern grades well and sees between 7.5 and 9.5 MPG towing and can still get 14.5 MPG unloaded at 65 MPH. Of all the mods that I have done to it, without question the gears had the biggest impact on its performance, all of the mods brought something to the table but the gears made it feel like a different and better truck.

Thanks for the response. I just went to a performance store asking about the gears they have on the wall. When I asked about them they looked at me like I was crazy and said " you want to regear just cause of your tire size??? " Yes I think I do. But not here... As far as performance I am having trouble finding much for this vehicle. Tons for any f150 but not much for 5.4 f250

That made my morning. Re-gear for tire size... why bother. Would they have preferred re-gear for towing??? Or perhaps, re-gear to match my pretty new aluminum diff cover???
No problem, I tried to tag your user name in it, but something changed from how it used to be done.
Not sure what method you tried but it did change a little while back, now if you use the @ symbol immediately followed by (no spaces) the user name (which should begin to auto fill as you go) it should tag that user. Like this @wizkid00104

That's it! I could not remember what it changed to. Thanks!
