Ok
My truck thinks its very funny.
Did this last winter, never did it once during summer.
What it does is this:
Driving along with it cold, runs fine. Once it gets warmed up and I maintain speed for a lenght of time (say highway driving) and then goto get off...it will stall as soon as I'm going slow enough.
So I thought it was the idle, so I turned it up this year (never bothered last year) and it now runs VERY high idle ( thought Good now it wont ever stall even if im revving the snot out of it at a stop light with my foot on the brake) and guess what STILL DOES IT!.
Now what could this be? If I stop for a minuite let it sit and then start again it runs fine (with a high idle) if I shut off and start again quick it usually does the same thing, but occassionaly behaves.
I think it has an attitude problem but really if its something I can fix let me know.

Yeah, I think it has atitude problem....needs adjustment. No, really, I think you have a carb problem. I had one 2 years ago that after cruising down the freeway for 10 miles it would "run out of gas", when I pulled over it would refire right away and drive for another 10 miles and run out of gas. Had to replace the carb on that one.

Hrm, that sounds like my problem just more severe. Please dont let me truck here you say that 
But thats what you think eh? Well...do you think it needs to be replaced or do you think it needs an adjustment? It's stock 2bbl on my 302...not much to adjust really other then idle?

Good Question. I really have no idea.
I thought there was just the one screw to adjust idle...where are all the other ones? Truck had a new engine on it when I got it and carb...supposedly so I've not had to do much with it in the last 30K except regular maintenance. And I had Fuel Injected cars before this so I dont know alot about carbs.
I've got a manual for my truck (haynes) but not for my carb...is there an online reference for it so I can see all the parts? As I said its the stock 2bbl motorcraft.

If this problem just showed up after 30k than I wouldn't think it to be a carb problem. If you have had it for quite a while though, it may be. How long has it ben since the filter has been changed? The mixture screws ( don't remember if you have 1 or 2) should be right at the base of the carb on the front. If this is a six, they may be on the side. 2barrl I think you will have 2 of them. Turn them in while counting how many turns it takes to seat them then back them out(to where they were for now)

it is more than likely a sticky float there are ways to check but at hi hi rpm under load the float is open which keeps the bowl full when you go to idle if the float stays open it dump way to much fuel into the engine and it dies after a few minutes the fuel evaporates and it runs often at this point the needle reseats. you need a needle and seat

make sure the choke is opening up what color is the exhaust black? check the choke at room temp it should be closed start it and the choke pull off should open it up the temp change my cause it to stick even an air cleaner thats been tighted to tight will distort the cardb enough to make the choke stick when it gets cold sounds like the choke is set "light" and doesnt close in the summer and when the weather gets cold it shuts and won't open check the choke vacum pull off and the choke stat and the choke stove piping a quick test would be to loosen the choke stat housing turn it till the choke stay open(lean) and run the truck if this works its the choke

Update and more info:
Changed fuel filter (what a pain...I found out I have a 81 carb on my truck...so the idiots at the part store finally got everything sorted out for me)
All power is restored it drives like normal.
Now still stalls though.
White smoke comes out when I start it up and run it for a while...not sure about when its warmed up because I dont recall looking I can do that today when I get to work.
Needle and float you say? How much is that roughly and how hard to change?
I'm a little carb illiterate...my first carb'd vehicle...so bare with me.

More info:
Seems to run ok when its warmer out, but now again its cold and its doing it every time I get to the light...brutal really.
I only found one screw to adjust for idle...is there anyway it could be my "its cold outside and engine is warm" adjustment...heh I only say that becuase it idles low when its warm out but doesn't have a problem staying running...cold out and it does.
I still think the decelleration thing is the problem so I am looking into replacing what was prev. mentioned and seeing if that helps.

Chado, have you checked the flipolater adjustment on the canneuter valve? Mine is always acting up and giving me trouble in cold weather, I hit it with a mini-sledge,,, sets it perfectly every time

i would say, to check all your vacuum hoses especially vacuum advance if your truck has it, check your choke operation, make sure the flange is opening when it should. But i do agree that your Float may be sticking, the best thing to do if your not used to carbs is to take it to a mechanic and have a rebuild, buts thats just my opinion,
