Can someone tell what kind of rearend and front axle are on my 78 f150

I am trying to see what the gear ratio of my front and rear axles are and wht type I have on my Truck. The only thing I have for you is that the axle code on my door says H2 J if that helps any.

3.50's are pretty common. I don't have a chart in front of me to verify though.

You have a Famous Ford 9" rear end, and its probably limited slip, with a 4.10 gearing, and the front is a Dana 44 open 4.09 gearing.

there are casting codes on the Dana housing, and a tag on the 9". you can post those here and soemone will be able to decode them for you.

Most VIN codes aren't reliable, since a lot of these trucks get mixed and matched over the years.

*edit

Your data plate says it is a 3.50 geared limited slip 3750lb axle. Only the tags will tell the truth.

Thanks again but does anyone know the J is for the front axle. The tags are not on the axle anywhere.

hey fellas just read this , its about rear ends. so i figuered you might know this, ts pretty dumb question but i'm a beginer. my rear end says 60 and some letters and my front end says 44 then some letters on the lower right hand side of the differental of each. does this mean my truck has a dana 60 in the rear and a 44 in the front?? and its a 79 f250 4x4
thanks

Yes,,,,,

Actually, dude, your axles are backwards, the 60 is supposed to be in the front and the 44 in the back. Looks like you have some serious work on your hands,,, j/k

DANA 60 front's are over 1K around this area. You might be able to find a HD Dana 44- uses 60 hubs, knuckels and shafts and a 44 ring and pinion.
