Please forgive my likely stupid questions. I tried some internet searching, but my GoogleFu skills are less than ideal. Despite what my username claims, I don't have an 08 truck. I now have a 2014 F350 dually, also H&S tuned, with 160,000+ on the clock. I keep the H&S on the stock setting all the time. No need to risk lifting the head or doing other damage. I've noticed that this 6.7 runs hotter than the old 6.4, and know that's normal. I'm curious about the limits though. When towing over relatively easy mountain passes (like Raton Pass recently), I've seen my coolant get up to 220 degrees, which seems excessive to me. Oil is typically 15 degrees hotter than coolant in those conditions. 220 and 235 were alarm temps back in the old 6.4. Temps dropped pretty quick on the other side so I don't think it's an issue, but you all have more experience than I do. Is what I'm experiencing typical of the 6.7, or should I be concerned? Oh, it was 90 degrees and in the sun while making the climb.
Even at those temps, I didn't notice the fan kicking on. When the 6.4 fan kicked on, I knew it. It was a pretty obvious roar. I assume the 6.7's fan would be just as loud. At what temp does it typically turn on? And when does Limp Mode kick in for the 6.7? 240 coolant and 260ish oil probably?
Thanks in advance, and again, sorry for the noob questions.
Thats normal. My oil termp runs a solid 200 all the time. I have no idea about the warter temp because My truck doesn't have a water temp gauge that reads in degrees. The new trucks have a built in safety. So if the truck gets to hot it will go into limp mode.

Good to hear. My oil temp is also about 200 all the time too. It's weird to see it that hot, but I'm getting used to it. I get the coolant temp from the H&S tuner.
I only run full synthetic oil because of the temps. I pull a 5th wheel and I have had it go to 240. but after you get to the top the temp seems to drop rather quickley.
Usually the fan will kick on around 225F coolant. but has been known to kick on high if oil temps get closer to 240F.
248F is the max oil temp I have ever seen. By then usually the water temp is running 230F or so, then things cool down pretty quickly. 235F coolant temp is the highest I have seen, puts the gauge at 3/4.
Like the other posts above, it's normal. The highest oil temperature I've seen is 243 and that was pulling up one of the higher passes here in Colorado. I freaked out the first time I saw those temperatures, especially when the transmission temperature was close to that. Unless the truck actually complains or derates (which it hasn't) I'll keep chugging along.
Thanks everyone. Looks like the general consensus is that the truck is still doing fine and I'm getting concerned over nothing. Didn't mean to post and abandon the thread. I've just been a bit more busy than usual since it's the 4th. Oh how life piles up quick some days.
Happy 4th of July everyone, even those who aren't celebrating anything.
