I have found a 2001 Excursion limited, 7.3l 4x2 with 79k miles.
The dealer is asking 22,900 for it. Is this a good price?
Its a clean truck, no blowby, transmission shifted fine on hard pulls. There are 2 error codes, I think one is an injector code
and the glow plug relay. I've called all the diesel shops in town and no one can fit in a PPI.
I used to have a 2000 f350 so I am familiar with these engines. I know that this is a unicorn but does this price jive with what you guys have
been seeing?
Last week, I bought an 2004 6.8 4x4 with 102k miles. Limited package with every option. Near flawless condition, remote start, single owner etc. for 12.5.
obviously not as valuable as a diesel but providing a recent comparable for you. I missed a similar car for 8k with 79k miles
Im kind of with you Jay. I looked on ebay and there are a couple of 4x4 7.3l with more mileage that are up to 25kish.
The big advantage to this one is that it is only an hour away from me.
I've been trying to decide just how important the 4wd is. This would be my DD as well as camping trip vehicle.
I've got young kids, so were arent going to be overlanding or anything.
To me it seems high for 4x2, but where are you gonna find a 7.3 Ex with 79K, period? Obviously, we love our Ex's, they are great vehicles. I say buy it if it's what you are looking for.
It seems a little high to me, but for 79k miles, I doubt you will find one cheaper. No rust? Also, how much could a 4wd conversion really cost if you wanted one down the road? You could even use a manual 4wd lever.
The fummins is cool, but I would have no idea how to evaulate whether that's a good truck or not. I know next to nothing about those conversions.
I want to start with a super clean truck. There's a nice 2005 in the Craigslist forum, but it's a v10 xlt and they are asking 20k. I guess 20k is the magic number for nice low mileage trucks.
Having both 2000's with 7.3L, my F350 4wd and the wife's Excursion 2wd in my sig, I can tell you that the 2wd Excursions are probably garaged grocery getters. Heck, just look at the low mileage...and they probably haven't towed much to boot! I know if I'm running around town picking up stuff, I will typically jump in the Excursion because it rides better, turns tighter, and gets better fuel mileage. Don't get me wrong, I love my F350 4x4, but I don't really need it on a daily bases. However, it's paid for and reliable! As far as that price...just seems a little high...but probably not by much, so see what you can negotiate...
Thanks for all the advice. I agree it's kind of high and the sales guy said they won't budge on price. Guess they think they have the golden goose. Well see. It's still available and of today so I think most people are passing because of the 2wd.
