I am trying to adjust the base timing on a 4.9 rebuild. Its a 96 4x4 with an electronic engine control system.
I just want to make sure I set the timing against this "pin" noted in the below picture.
I understand that I need get the engine temp to normal operating and then unplug the SPROUT before setting the base timing BTDC 10 degrees.
The new dampener is marked with TDC (painted) and 10 degrees BTC (circled). I assume BTC is before top center.
To set the base timing, do I line the 10 degree mark against the "pin"? And I would do this by turning the distributor a few degrees until its on the mark?
Just FYI, after I took this picture, I also put a white dot on the 10 degree mark on the balancer. So line on TDC and dot on the 10 degree.
