1955/239 throttle linkage

I was looking at the throttle linkage on my ‘55 and see that it has what looks like an extra “fork” (see pic). This truck did not have the original 239/T98 drivetrain when I bought it. In fact, it had no drivetrain at all. But at some point, whatever it had for an engine was coupled with an automatic transmission (clutch pedal assembly was butchered and a square cutout was made in a repop transmission cover). I’m thinking this modification must have been needed for whatever the last engine was?

Anybody have any thoughts on what this could be for, exactly?

Looks like it started life with a 6 cylinder and when the engine swap was done they welded in what you highlighted..

I might agree with you , but the VIN indicates that it was originally equipped with a 239 Y-block and a 4SYN (BW T98) transmission.
