Frame member. Problem is front support has to be removed before you can drop a C6. Bell housing is to big, front support is pretty much impossible to get to. Have seen old post on here where someone cut out the middle so it can be dropped out without removing the whole thing. Guess I will try that. Thanks

That was probably me, we cut the cross member to get the transmission out. It was so tight that it couldn't be moved more than an inch in any direction or so with a 4lb hammer. In hindsight, I do wonder if we had experimented with loading the suspension differently in an attempt to get the rails to open up a bit would have helped. IIRC, we had the wheels on the ground, it may have helped to raise it off the ground and let things droop or jack one side high with the jack under the king pin. Also, keep in mind this was a '74 F250 SuperCab 390. The cross member is fairly large and bolts both to the frame and the radius rod mounts.

The original post.

Note that if you chose to cut it, you may not want to admit it...

On my past 79 f150 an my present 79 f100 if its the front small cross member towards front of tranny , , I would raise the engine up with tranny attached and see about removing the bolts to the front cross member and take it out , at least on the 79 in picture , its hard to see bolts but its very removable if its like mine, its just not easy with everything in the way
