I think they require a full 12 volts.
I know my Pertronix distributor conversion requires full voltage.

HEI requires full voltage or you will burn up the module.

You might try using the resistor wire to trip a relay from the battery.

Pertronix sells a relay to switch with the resistor wire and feed the full 12 v to the dizzy. If you decide to go that route I have one of their relays I never used I would sell. PM me if interested. Hope that’s ok to say here.

It's real easy to eliminate the "Pink" wire and splice in a solid wire under the dash.

A tangent - I have the hei distributor and Taylor 64666 wire set on my 300.

Supposedly others use this combination, but routing the wires is a bit challenging, and they seem almost too short. Anyone else have experience with this?

This^^^^. In fact on my 65 there was actually a bullet connector right at the ignition switch. Unplugged the pink wire and plugged in another wire to run 12V over to the Pertronix. Otherwise you can use a relay like I use in my Park Lane, Cougar, Mustang, and Polara that has an HEI that I made up.

I always buy a universal set and make my own. Makes routing them much easier.
