On the 54 F350 Does anybody know if the spindle arm ball pushes out of the spindle arm , Like a tie rod end comes out with a fork. The ball is part of the sector shaft at the other end I know for sure. I noticed when trying to remove the drag link as a complete assembly ( rather than trying to loosen the adjustment screw under the cotter pin and leave the ball on the spindle arm) I noticed a screw slot after taking the cotter pin out of the castle nut and removing the nut. I can't remember for the life of me wether it does something other than push in. It is stuck in the spindle but good. Maybe have to take the blue wrench to it. Thought I'd ask in case it actually screws out But I don't think so anybody taken theres' apart lately?
As Dick said, they are pressed in and the butt end is slightly swaged to hold them in place.
I carefully ground out the center of the swaged material and then pressed the ball and stud out on a hydraulic press. If you go this route, DON'T mess up the hole in the spindle arm when you grind out the swaged material. Just take your time, and only remove enough in the middle so the outer layer of the swaged material will collapse and press through the spindle hole. Good luck!
