Power Steering Return Line Engineering

Had a good reason to replace the power steering lines. Fortunately it was on my timeline and not from failure.

From the looks of all the loops and extra length in the return line, it made me wonder whether this was an engineer's intent to cool without use of a finned cooler.

Searched a bit and could not find any comments about the twisty / loopy power steering return line or whether anybody did an aftermarket PS cooler for the OBS, so figured I'd ask:

Will cutting-out the loops and installing a finned cooler help the system? Or just leave it alone and deal with finding a replacement in 25 years?

Yep, it is a cooler. Plus adds a bit more capacity. Look at half tons with and without tow packages. They usually have a larger PS return line. Yes, a finned cooler will help more. Unsure if needed without hydroboost and even a steering ram.

Add a Magnefine inline filter on the return side too. More capacity and cleaner fluid.
