Hey guys. I need some help. I have a solid 1996 F150 XLT I bought to fix up and drive. When I got it the headlight bulbs were missing so I bought 9007 replacements. Hooked them up and they work great BUT they will not lock into the housing and also when I put the lock rings on the lock rings won't lock into position either (without the bulbs they lock in perfectly). I thought possibly I was sent the wrong bulbs so I bought another set of 9007's by a different company guaranteed to fit my truck BUT they do the same thing. Any ideas why?
Thanks
The bulb has 2 little nubbins on the flange, they need to line up with the indention's in the headlight mounting spot..
I believe they push in and turn to lock in,
Then the black locking ring go on with a twist to lock in place.
Thanks brother. They line up but wont push in and lock. The Lock Ring will screw on and lock in place without a bulb but when I try it with the bulb even the lock ring wont lock in place. Never had this happen before.
I forgot to tell you to lube the rubber ring.
I just replaced a bulb a few weeks ago, and was in the same predicament, I wiped a bit of Vaseline on the rubber ring, and it went in easily. .
OK great, I'm glad it helped.
I can't believe I forgot that little trick. I was going thru the same head ache, then for some odd reason it just came to me to lube it up.
I wouldn't have thought I'd forget it.
Hahahaha...glad you remembered it. I never would have thought of greasing the ring but I looked at it before I did and noticed where it had been rubbing agianst the housing as I was trying to get it to fit. I'll be doing this from now on!
