Does anyone make stronger replacement springs for the hood hinges on these old trucks? I bought replacement hood hinges (which came with new springs) for my '69 F100 about 18 months ago and the springs are already so weak that the hood falls back down several inches every time it is raised.
Billets would be a solution, but they are $600 to $700.

My hinges are fine. I just need stronger springs.
there was a post I read sometime ago that talked about the replacement hinges and springs being produced today as being weak. I dont know where that post is. The poster had a suggestion from someone to keep the original hinge and spring and there was a spring he got from a hardware store that he fashioned inside the original spring to give it added tension....I was upset on reading this is why I remember it....I had just thrown away my original hinges with its original and weak springs and instead had some new shinny hinges with new springs....that are likely to fail quickly.....
LMC makes a replacement spring for the hood hinge. My originals hold the hood up but at the top it settles back about 2 inches (enough to hit my head on the latch...ouch). I put in the new springs, and they are definitely strong, but maybe too strong. They tend to torque on the hinge radially and bend it out of play a little. I took them off out of fear, and then recently reinstalled them (living dangerously). So far they have done well. Make sure you buy the spring installer tool, otherwise you may need some bandaids.
