Plow Prep Package_PPP

Just started looking for a new(er) F-150. Currently driving 2000, that I purchased with just over 1k miles and I've added 120K. Illinois hasn't been kind to the body but still starts just lots of small issues that some day are going to be a big problem. I recently discovered I may be able to afford a new truck but most likely will settle for a 1-3yr old if I can find what I want. Had the pleasure of taking a road trip in a 2018 Lariat and still didn't figure out all the bells and whistle's by the time we got back.

The one thing I can not find in a truck or have only found one thus far is the simple $50 PPP. Since this will be the first vehicle we have ever purchased with less than 1k miles I am being a little picky. Having a hard time finding a V8, FX4, 4WD, SCrew, and tailgate step ( a must ) with the PPP. Any advice?
Thanks

Welcome to FTE.

Good luck find in plow pkg or a heavy duty payload pkg. Neither of which you are likely to find used other than a fleet vehicle.

You can get a tow package and upgrade your front springs. That may help you get where you want to be.

My understanding at this time is unless the F-150 comes with the PPP you cannot put a plow on it? I am going to try and contact a few plow mfg.'s to see if this holds true. I am more worried about the electrical issues that may arise if not done properly. Thanks

As mentioned, plow prep is a difficult find. The package doesn't give you much - a button that load sheds electronics and activates the plow relay. It also ditches the auto 4wd transfer case if ordered in Lariat trim.

The prep package doesn't do anything by way of suspension/cooling. I wouldn't let the lack of plow prep package prevent me from installing a very light duty plow. I would look for a truck with the factory power inverter since that ships with the higher amperage alternator. Then just keep your electrical load to a minimum when running plow solenoids.

Any 5.0 truck is snow plow capable. You need the 15.00 switch, forscan and the yellow wire is tapped to the back of the headlight switch.

Gashog - what's the yellow wire for?

The yellow wire is a hot lead output, it connects to the plow control. Various manufacturers of plows need a hot signal lead for the pump and that wire provides it.

It can't be the main power to the pump, that draws too much current. So it must be a hot for the plow controls (or the headlights?) Any idea when it's energized? My plow control is wired through one of the upfitter switches, which I don't think is ideal, I'd rather it was hot whenever the truck was on.
